At The Golden Wink Spa, proper preparation and care are essential for maximizing the effectiveness of our treatments. Below you’ll find tailored guidelines for each service to enhance results and ensure a smooth recovery.
Neurotoxins
Before
- Inform your provider: Disclose all medications (including supplements), medical conditions, and allergies.
- Avoid blood thinners: Discontinue aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners for a few days before treatment.
- Skip alcohol and blood thinners 24-48 hours prior to reduce bruising risks.
- Arrive with clean skin: Avoid makeup, creams, and lotions on the day of your appointment.
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before your appointment.
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine: These can increase the risk of bruising.
- Eat a small meal: Have a light snack or meal before your appointment.
- Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or hair removal creams: In the area to be treated a week prior.
After:
- Stay upright: Avoid lying down or bending over for the first 4 hours after treatment to prevent the neurotoxin from spreading.
- Keep upright for several hours and avoid strenuous activities for a day.
- Avoid touching or massaging the treated area: Refrain from touching or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise: Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that increase heart rate or blood pressure for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid heat: Stay away from saunas, hot tubs, and excessive sun exposure for the first few days.
- Avoid facials, microdermabrasion, and laser treatments: For at least 7 days after treatment.
- Avoid NSAIDs: Do not take NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen for 24 hours, as they can increase the risk of bruising.
- Use Tylenol: You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol) for any discomfort or headache.
- Follow up with your provider: Schedule a follow-up appointment 2-3 weeks after your initial visit for a reevaluation and potential touch-up.
- Expect some swelling or bruising: It's normal to experience some swelling or bruising at the injection sites, which can be treated with ice packs.
- Avoid wearing hats or headbands: For at least 2 days after the treatment.
Dermal Fillers
Before:
- To lessen the likelihood of bleeding or bruising: Discontinue use of blood-thinning products for 10 days prior to treatment, if approved by your primary care provider. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil), naproxen, Aleve, fish oil, St. John's Wort, flax, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, ginseng, etc. Avoid alcohol 24 hours pre- or post-injectable treatment, as it is also a blood thinner. Consider taking Arnica Montana natural supplement to help bruising (take 5 tablets three times per day starting one week prior to treatment).
- Notify your provider: If you have any history of cold sores, as pre-medicating with an antiviral prescription prior to injections may be considered. Cancel your appointment if you have any open sores in the treatment area. It's important to alert us of any medical conditions you may have and/or any prescribed medications you are taking prior to your treatment.
- Risk for infection:
For this reason, the following is considered when proceeding with injections. We will delay injectables if you:

- Additional contraindications: Pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies to components of dermal fillers, open sores in areas to be treated.
After:
Following your cosmetic filler treatment, please adhere to the guidelines below to ensure optimal results:
- Common Reactions: Swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and areas of firm nodules may occur.
